Hi everyone, welcome to my introduction blog! My name is Julianna Boyle. |
Personal Photo: Thanksgiving of 2011
For Starters, I grew up in Houston, Texas for the last 18 years of my life, but my parents recently moved to Tyler, Texas. While this was a big change in my life, I've enjoyed being able to wake up every morning and seeing the beauty of the lake from my very own backyard. I grew up in a larger family. I have three sisters and two brothers, but none of us are close in age. In fact, the closest one is 5 years from me. My siblings include Justin (41), Leslie (36), Masha (31), Spencer (27), Katya (25), and me (20). Fun fact about my family is that 4 of us are actually adopted. My brother Spencer is adopted from Texas, Masha and Katya are biological siblings from Russia, and I'm adopted from China.

I'm currently a junior studying health and exercise science. I hope to one day go to nursing school and pursue my dream of working in pediatrics, my dream job is to be a pediatric intensive care unit nurse. I've always wanted the opportunity to work with children and provide health care to others. Also at my time at OU, I've had the opportunity to be a member of the coed cheerleading team. Growing up I was a gymnast and looked down on those who were cheerleaders, now look at me! OU has given me countless opportunities to not only cheer on some of the greatest sports teams, but also contribute to my academics.

Another fun fact about me, is that I am completely 100% obsessed with my dogs back at home. I have two shih tzus named Bella and Brody. I got Brody back when I was in high school and he was my very first dog that I had from a puppy, and about the beginning of my sophomore year, my parents got Bella and she is just the cutest thing ever.
Hi JJ! Funny how a randomizer got me here :)
ReplyDeleteI did not know your dream job was to be a pediatric intensive care unit nurse. That is so awesome – and will likely be such a rewarding experience! I love dogs, too, so I loved seeing these pictures. Your big family sounds like fun, and it’s awesome that four of you were adopted.
What a wonderful international family, JJ! Maybe for your Storybook project in this class, you could do a mix of Texas, Chinese, and Russian stories... we have stories from those places in the UnTextbook (the Texas stories are Tejas legends). And look at that cheerleading picture, wow! And is this the team that won the national championship just last week? Christina wrote about that in a blog post... are you part of the same OU Cheer squad?
ReplyDeleteAnd your Bella and Brody are both so cute; maybe they will make an appearance in some of your stories this semester! Plus you might learn some stories that you will be able to share with children in the future as a nurse: you can never have too many stories ready-to-share as needed! :-)
Hi JJ!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the age gap between you and your siblings! I have a sister that is 12. It's kind of weird to have siblings that are in a different stage of life than you are, but cool at the same time. I think it's really awesome that you want to be an intensive care nurse in a pediatric unit.
Hi JJ! That is cool that you have four other siblings. I am the youngest of three and feel like that is a lot in itself. I also love the pictures of your dogs. I also have dogs but they are big dogs and are pretty wild. In the future, I also hope to work with kids in one way or another. I feel very happy when I am around kids! I hope you have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteJJ! I'm so glad we're in this class together! It's so cool that you've been a gymnast and a cheerleader and have gotten to experience both sides! I've probably told you this before, but I've always wanted to be able to tumble (ugh why is my body so long??) and sadly have never been able to. Also, I'm completely obsessed with my dogs at home too! Why did we choose to move so far away from them? They are my world and I always look forward to going home and seeing them when I get the chance! I'm looking forward to reading your posts this semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna. That's cool that you're a health and exercise sciences major. My sister-in-law majored in that and is now looking at going to nursing school, so I hope you two both find success there. I understand your dog obsession too. I have a border collie that lives with my parents and I'm always looking for any excuse to go see it!
ReplyDeleteHey JJ! First off, your dogs are so cute. I'm a sucker for anything cute and fluffy so they already have my heart. And gymnastics and cheerleading, that sounds so cool! I was never allowed to do anything like that (my dad saw a stunt gone wrong in high school, so that was strictly on the 'no' list) so the closet I ever came was learning a front hand spring at recess. Cheer must take a lot of work and I'm sure you're great!
ReplyDeleteJJ, it’s so cool that you compete with OU’s coed cheerleading team! I know that must be a ton of hard work. Working in the pediatrics ICU is a wonderful, ambitious goal and I wish you the best with it! Also, your dogs are absolutely adorable. I love how their names match with the B’s! My friend Nicole actually has two dogs, also named Bella and Brody!
ReplyDeleteHi JJ,
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome that you want to work in the pediatrics ICU. I am looking forward to a similar career path - one in the neonatal unit. I have always had a desire to work with children, then it developed into a passion for infants. Nursing is such a difficult but rewarding career! It is also really awesome that your family was willing to adopt; I have always thought it is so important to give homes to children that otherwise may not have one. I have always had a strange desire to adopt children from Russia after I began learning Russian my sophomore year of college. Maybe one day it will happen. Anyways, I love your dogs and I wish you the best of luck for your future in nursing!
Hi JJ,
ReplyDeleteI love that you are passionate about healthcare! I am a health and exercise science major myself so I can relate. I also think its so cool that your family has adopted. I've always wished I could tumble- I'm a dancer and on pom actually! So I admire all the things cheerleaders and gymnasts can do because I definitely can't! You're dogs are adorable!
Julianna,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful family! It is clear that they're very important to you. And wow, Disney sure looks like a fun place to cheer at. :) I have no coordinator what so ever, so hearing that you're successful both in cheerleading AND gymnastics is incredibly impressive. Also, kudos to you on wanting to be a nurse! I know that path isn't easy, and it takes a really special kind of person to want to pursue that work. Best of luck!
Hi Julianna! I think it is amazing that you come from such a large family. And many of your siblings, including yourself, are adopted. Your parents sure are stellar for raising so many kids. I did gymnastics from 3 to like... 5. I gave it up to pursue dancing, which I did from 3 to 13. My younger sister, however, stuck with it longer and then did competitive cheer! Cheer sure is a crazy world. I bet you are having fun with it though.
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna! It is nice to meet you! I saw that you are majoring in HES, are you interested in the health field after you graduate? Also, I think that is really impressive that you are able to balance so many activities with academics because I know OU cheer is a large time commitment. I love the pictures you shared; your dogs are adorable!

ReplyDeleteHey Julianna! Wow, I think it's amazing that your parents adopted you and some of your siblings from different places! That's so beautiful. I also think it's cool that you live near a lake, because I do too! Although I live in OKC. Your life at OU seems very well rounded too. I love your dogs that you posted pictures of as well, they are ADORABLE. I look forward to reading your stories!
ReplyDeleteHey Julianna! That is a great picture on your introduction page. What a beautiful drawing! I have always wondered how it is to be adopted, but I imagine it is pretty much the same. Love is love. I am sure you will be a great pediatric nurse. My sister is an RN at the Bethany Children's Hospital. She loves it. It takes a lot of heart and strength. She gets attached to the kids.
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna! It must be wild sometimes to grow up in a family so big! I only have one sibling so it was usually pretty laid back around the house. Right on for pursuing nursing! I think healthcare is a very rewarding field of work, but I'm biased. Brody has such a cute toothy smile! No dogs of my own back home, but I'm always missing my cats.
ReplyDeleteHi JJ! You have a beautiful family, and I think it is wonderful that you all are so different in age. My sisters and I are all very close in age and while that has its perks too it would be nice to be able to get the viewpoints of people at different life stages. I think it is awesome that you want to go into pediatrics, that is something that I have been drawn to as well. Your dogs are so cute too! I can't wait to read your stories!
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna! I'm pretty sure I've commented on some of your stuff so I'm not sure how I never read/commented on your introduction before now. Anyway, it's really cool that you're a gymnast and cheerleader, that must take a lot of time on top of schoolwork, especially nursing! Also, your dogs look so adorable and cuddly, and it's making me miss my family's maltese.
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna! I have definitely commented on your storybook/portfolio before because your introduction seemed familiar based on what you are doing with your storybook. It is awesome that you are pursuing nursing school, the world is in need of my nurses willing to work hard. I love the pictures of your pups, I am also obsessed with my pup back home.
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna! I love the pictures of your dog! It's very important. One thing that appreciate is how you listed off all your siblings lol. It's awesome that you want to go to nursing school and work in the pediatric field! I look forward to reading some of your stories!
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna! It's awesome to hear that you're planning on going into pediatrics. There seems to be a decent number of people in this class planning on going into medical fields, which is admirable. It's also neat to hear that you're on the co-ed cheerleader team, especially after you said that you looked down on cheerleaders before. Learning to overcome previous biases is always good, and I'm glad that it resulted in you finding something you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna! It's really cool that you're planning to be a pediatric nurse. It seems like you're really passionate about your field and helping kids. Also, your dogs are adorable.
ReplyDeleteHi Julianna! I just love your dogs! They are so freaking cute! Also, pediatrics is such a rewarding field! My heart melts when I see sick children so im not sure I could handle it. Also, being on the co-ed cheer team is pretty neat! Seems like a change in perspective form what you said in the past. Looking forward to reading your stories!
